Brooke,
Is this the Joseph T. Ballenger who was born c.1818 in GA, married Mary, lived in DeKalb Co. GA in 1850, and then moved to Calhoun Co. MS in the 1850s? If so, I didn't know his middle name was Tarpley, and that further convinces me my line is connected to his. I'm descended from Chalmers Tarplin Bellenger who was born in Cobb Co. GA in 1841 and moved to Calhoun Co. MS in the 1860s. He lived very near Joseph. Chalmers married Mary Jane Ray, the sister of Narcissa Ray who married Joseph's son Daniel Ballenger. I've searched for Chalmers' parents for 20 years, and just found them last week. I believe both Joseph and Chalmers are descended from the Elbert Co. GA Ballengers of the early 1820s, but I'm still working on that.
Bruce
