Our Georgia Ballengers are difficult to pin down. There are a couple of bible records floating around, one for 1780 William's family, and one for 1798 John's. They both seem to be sons of John Ballenger & Agnes Floyd, along with Nancy who married John Coker. Other sons are David who married Rebecca Stephenson in Franklin Co. in 1811, and Peter who married Sarah c1807. There may have been other children, but they are not known.

You're asking whether these people are related to each other. There is sometimes direct evidence tying them together, but more often it is based on good guesses. For instance, a bible record of one of 1798 John's daughters gives death dates & ages for John & Agnes (which is how we know their birth years 1749 and 1762). I don't know if the bible record in William's family provides direct proof or not. The 1820 census for Elbert Co. GA shows John Sr, John Jr, William and David. Peter appears on tax records in Franklin Co. from 1807-1819.

One piece of evidence tying Nancy Coker to John & Agnes is that John Coker's 1830 census contains a woman of the right age for Agnes. We know Agnes was alive in 1830, and no other Ballenger census records has a woman the right age. John & Agnes's 1820 census includes a woman the right age for Nancy.

Send me an email if you are interested in seeing everything I have for this family.
