Hello Susan,
I don't know if these will help but these are some websites that I found my Ballengers on. They came through Virginia on their way to South Carolina from England. My Ballengers are listed below:

Richard Ballenger (1542-????) (England)
m. (1586) Amye Chadburne

Robert Ballenger (1595-????) (England)
m. ??

Francis Ballenger (1630) (England)
m. (1657) Elizabeth Randle

Francis Ballenger (1661) (England)
m. Judith

John Ballenger (1703) (Maryland)
m. ??

Francis Ballenger (?1726-?1810) (Virginia)
m. (?1744) Sarah Conner

James Ballenger (1756-1826) (Virginia-Greenville County, SC)
m. (?1769)Docia (orDorcas) Dodson

John Ballenger (?1769-1848) (Virginia-???)
m. (?1790) Alsie Leachman

Joshua Dodson Ballenger (1791-1833) (Spartanburg, SC)

Jincie Wheeler Ballenger (1872-1942)

I suppose you aren't talking about the James Ballenger listed above?? While you are looking check and see if you can find out about the story of Ballengers leasing land from George Washington! :-) The names of some Ballengers are indexed in Washington's papers.

These are some websites I found. (I think I have more but can't find them right now.) Try searching on google....you might be surprised :-)
