Catherine (Kitty) Ballenger & Thomas McCollum

Intensive searching (5 years) for Thomas McCollum and Catherine (Kitty) Ballenger has been done! Many trips to the Campbell & Kenton Co., KY scouring the libraries, courthouses and cemeteries. Every document that had the name McCollum/McCullum was copied, brought home, read and re-read and read again. It has been determined that in Campbell/Kenton Counties, KY between 1785 and 1830 there was at least three different persons by the name of Thomas McCollum. It has previously been the assumption of not only nyself but other researchers that Thomas McCollum who married Catherine (Kitty) Ballenger in 1811 had died in 1820.
I am happy to say Thomas McCollum (son of John McCollum & Sarah) did not die in 1820! It was indeed another Thomas! Deed records found in Campbell County, (Alexandria), KY confirm that Thomas and Catherine were alive and well in 1837 when they sold the last of their land preparing to move on to Indiana.
They can be found in Fountain County, IN in the 1840 census living with all their children but the two oldest (one of which is married). It has been determined through research in Fountain County, IN & Montgomery County, IN and that the children of Thomas and Catherine are as listed:
John Bryant McCollum: b. 1815/1816 m. Sarah Crisler
Thomas McCollum Jr. b. 1821 m. Jane Crisler
Benjamin McCollum b. December 1822 m. Usceba Allen
Samuel McCollum b. June 30, 1826 m. Sarah Burns
Susan Mary McCollum b. January 18, 1829 m. Henry Sennate
Sarah McCollum b. 1832 M. Davis Sennate
Narcissa Ann McCollum b. 1824 m. Jonathan N.B. Rice, may also be a child of Thomas and Catherine McCollum since she was living with them in the 1840 census and Thomas McCollum signed her marriage consent.
Thomas McCollum died somewhere between 1840 and 1850 since only Catherine (Ballenger) McCollum is found living with her daughter in the 1850 census. Catherine is also found in the 1860 census living with a second daughter but is not found in later census reports indicating she died between 1860 and 1870.
Documents also found in Campbell/Kenton County, KY prove that Thomas McCollum who married Catherine Ballenger is the son of John McCollum and Sarah??
Anyone following this line is welcome to contact me at my listed email address ( I would be happy to share and provide documents found while researching this illusive line of McCollum's.
Thomas McCollum and Catherine Ballenger are my g-g-g-grandparents.
Mae Lowe
