It's been a while since I've worked on my family's geneology. I'm visiting my grandson so I don't have all of my information with me. My grandfather was Lewis Calvin Ballenger, son of Oscar. He lived in Boliver which is right beside Harpersferry. I found the following in a federal census:
1870 Federal census has an Oscar Ballenger who was 13. That would have made him the right age for my great grandfather. It took me a long time to make out the fathers name due to the poor handwriting. It originally looked like Karsison age 55. After some more research I realized it was Harrison. Next listed is a Sarah 28 (I believe his second wife), Thomas 23, Benjamin 20, George 17, Martha 15, Oscar 13, Josephine 6, Edgar 5, Charles 3, and Fannie E. 19 (which I believe is Thomas' wife). Loudoun county VA. Post office Lincoln.
I got the following information from my sister:
Lewis Calvin Ballenger (my grandfather) B. Feb. 10, 1896 in Loudon County, Va. Died Aug 2, 1958
His father was Oscar Nicholas Ballenger
His mother was Lucy Catherine Stewart (I have to recheck this, I'm not sure if my sister had this one right, she may have been his wife)
At the time of his death he had 2 living brothers, Willard and Henry and 3 sisters Edith, Emma, and Lila.
Lewis and Oscar both have tombstones in the Boliver cemetary.
