From the Cheyenne (OK) Star, Jan. 20, 1949: Funeral services for Dr. B. M. Ballenger, pioneer Roger Mills county physician, will be held at the Methodist church in Cheyenne Thursday afternoon, January 20, 1949. Dr. Ballenger died in an Elk City hospital Monday night, January 18, 1949 after a critical illness of seven days. Dr. Ballenger came to Roger Mills county in the early days and located at old Hamburg where he practiced medicine until about 19__ [illegible] when he moived to Strong City. He practiced medicine in Strong City until his retirement about ten years ago. For the past few years he has resided in Cheyenne. Dr. Ballenger was the old family type physician who administered to the needs of those who called him regardless of whether or not he ever received any money for his services. Alll who knew him loved him. Bart M. Ballenger was born March 19, 1864 at Carbon Hills, Alabama and died in Elk City, Oklahoma January 17, 1949. In 1891 he was married to Mollie Sheppard who died soon after he came to Roger Mills County. In 1910 he was married to Julia Stephenson, who preceded him in death. He is survived by six daughters and two sons. Four daughters preceded him in death. The surviving sons and daughters are B. M. Ballenger, Cheyenne, Joe M. Ballenger, Tokyo, Japan, Mrs. Eula Wilson, Pampa, Texas, Mrs. Stella Lyans, San Francisco, California, Mrs. O. V. Shelton, Reydon, Oklahoma, Mrs. F. J. Arnoldd, Clovis, New Mexico, Mrs. J. R. Choats, Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. G. H. Gatten, San Bernadino, California. Dr. Ballenger was a member of the Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Odd Fellows lodge of Hamburg. Interment in Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills county, Oklahoma. Notify Administrator about this message?
