Hi Frankie,
So glad to hear from a Bannachan! I've not had any luck tracing my ancestor Mary Bannachan back any further. I suspect that her name was misspelled on some official documents or that the spelling changed at some point. I think that she was of Irish descent (she married an Irishman in Glasgow) but I don't know where the name originates from. Have you traced your family name at all? I'd be very interested to learn anything about where the name was from.
