Henry "Hank" A.Baran of Utica
Mr. Henry "Hank" A. Baran, age 82, of Utica, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2005, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on July 21, 1922, Henry was the son of the late Leon and Catherine (Halub) Baran. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. A proud veteran of WWII, he served with the U.S. Army 5th Air Force in the Pacific Theater of Operations. On May 9, 1953, he was joined in marriage with the former Anne L. Julian. Blessed with a wonderful marriage, Hank and Anne were dearest sweethearts to one another throughout their union of almost 52 years. Mr. Baran enjoyed a successful career as an engineer with the Pettibone Crane Building Co. of Rome. After 34 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1984. Hank was a man of strong principles, unshakable convictions, and great determination. Possessing a spiritual nature, he derived much of his strength from his deep trust in his faith, his values, and his beliefs. He was gifted with a subtle and dry sense of humor, which was just one of the very special traits for which his family and friends will always remember him. He was a communicant of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church. In his leisure time, Hank enjoyed reunions with his army buddies. An avid golfer, he frequented the fairways at Pine Hills, playing with the same foursome for 31 years. He also enjoyed the excitement of harness racing. He was a longtime and dedicated fan of the Chicago White Sox. Mr. Baran is survived by his wife, Anne; and a son, David Baran of Utica. His survivors also include a sister, Julia Kuznia of Utica; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; a nephew-in-law and good friend, Rocco Rosati; a godson, Sherman Clarke; and his in-laws, Genevieve Baran, Guy "Frank" and Dorothy Julian, Dorothy Moser, and Joyce Julian and her fiance, Wayne Byers. Henry was predeceased by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Frank Baran, and Joseph and Mary Ann Baran; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Joseph Dubiel and Helen and Thomas Mullen; a brother-in-law, Joseph Kuznia; a nephew, John J. Julian; and his best friend, Stanley Nicewicz. The family extends its sincere appreciation to the numerous physicians and nurses of the ICU at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, especially Kim, as well as to the paramedics of the UFD's Rescue Team and the officers of the UPD, all of whom responded with expertise, concern, and compassion. Thanks also to Father Dellis of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church for his prayers and anointing. Visitation will be held on Monday (today) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider honoring Henry's memory with contributions to the American Heart Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Baran's funeral will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place with Military Honors in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum of Holy Trinity Cemetery.
