I am looking for information on the descndants of Samuel A. Berkley, born 1883 in AL to Jim and Sarah Latham Barclay/Berkley. Sam married Bertha L. Spurgeon and had the following children:

Clarence, born 1907
Bradford, born 1909
Katherine, born 1914
Elsie, born 1916
Howard, born 1923

This information is partly from the 1920 census of Lawrence Co., AL and from some family information. Bertha died in 1924 and some of the children went to live with various family members. I remember my father saying that Uncle Wann raised some of his sister's children and that some of the girls also lived with him. I don't remember ever have met any of the Barkley children.

Clarence was born in 1907, so he was actually old enough to live on his own, but I haven't found him in the 1930 census. It is also possible that Bradford could have gone out on his own or lived with his father, but again, I cannot find him in 1930. I also have not found Katherine in 1930 nor have I found a marriage for her. I also cannot find Sam Barkley in the 1930 census. I have looked under spellings of Barkley and Barclay.

Howard was adopted by Bertha's brother, Andrew Wann Spurgeon and his name was changed to Charles Howard Spurgeon, but he is listed in the 1930 census in Wann's household as Howard B. Spurgeon with the notation that he was adopted. (Howard Barkley Spurgeon?)

It is highly possible that Clarence and Bardford have other names, but I don't know those names.

Is there anyone out there who has any info on this family?

Thank you

Mona Spurgeon Herrin
