I can' tell you how excited I am to read your message. Benjamin Bostic Barkley is my great-great grandfather with his last wife, Parmelia Ward. I have B. B. Barkley's old Bible that lists the births, deaths and marriages of many of his family. He actually had 3 different sets of children by different mothers, according to a note that was in the Bible.
HIs first wife was Mary Jane Wier, who had previously been married to a Mr. Portis. I believe the daughter, Jennie was a Portis. B.B. and Mary Jane had Eliza Jane--2 Feb. 1858 and Elijah Eugene--4 Feb. 1860. Sometime during 1860 Mary Jane died and her sister Diana (Dicey) Margaret Wier Lawson moved in to help tend to the babies. She bore two children with B. B. Barkley. The first child was Bill (William?) in 1861 and Emma in 1862. She also had several children by Robert Lawson.
B. B. married Parmelia (Meeley) Ward on 24 Feb. 1863 and my great grandfather, Samuel Thomas Barkley was born on 12 Dec. 1863. The note in the Bible said that Dicey took her children and left. She is buried at Little Hope Cemetery in Tippah Co.
The note also mentions that Lizzah Jane (notice spelling) married Mr. Welch and he had a son nine years of age (Willie Welch). They left this son with Ben and Meeley to rear. Willie Welch married Laura Wommack and they raised their family in Tippah Co. Mr. Welch and Lizzah Jane had a son named Tom (James Thomas Welch) b. 4 Nov. 1874 d. 25 April 1895 at age 21. The note goes on to state---After Mr. Welch died Lizzah Jane married Mr. Aldrich( notice sp.-Aldridge) and she later married Frank Nix, Mrs. Gadd Barkley's daddy. Gadsden Bostic Barkley was the youngest son of B.B. and Parmelia Barkley.
I would love a 4x6 copy of the photo of Eliza Jane and her daughters and a copy of any info you have available. I love to find a new piece for the family puzzle!
Please email me at email@example.com and I will give you my mailing address.
Thank you so much for this new information!
