I have a Sarah Barman born approx 1840 who was my James's sister (found in the 1851 census, Sarah age 11 and James age 23 living with their father Stephen and other siblings -I also found them in the 1841 census). There was also an unmarried 21-year-old Sarah Barman, needlewoman, born New Romney, living in New Romney workhouse at the time of the 1861 census with two children, 3-year-old George and 1-month-old unnamed female. (My widowed g-g-grandmother is there at the same time with her daughter!)Is this your Sarah?Does this fit with your Sarah's mother also being Barman? Is this actually 2 different people?I'd be interested to hear what you think.
I'm going to the Romney Marsh area for a holiday in August and will definitely be visiting New Romney.I'm very intrigued by the Norwegian connection!
