English Barmans

I have a Henry Dawson Barman (my GG grandfather), born ca 1821 and baptised in Dover, later a captain in the merchant navy, possibly the East India Company. On his marriage certificate he says that he's the son of Henry Dawson Barman, but his baptism entry only shows his mother's name (Susanna Barman), which I'm sort of assuming means he was illegitimate.I can't get any further back than this - there don't seem to be many, if any, other Barmans in Dover at the time though they're obviously numerous in the rest of Kent. We've got a rumour in our family that a Norwegian sea captain figures in the picture somewhere but with no hint as to how!Can anyone help with ideas for how I should try to find his family?Or do you have a stray Henry lurking in your tree??
Many thanks
Rachel
