I do find it interesting that your family first appears in 1700, since Barneycastles moved there around 1610.Barneycastles seem to disappear just before 1700, though that could mean they moved away or took the name Castle.I looked up Goldington and Weden on an old map of England, apparently it used to be called Stoke Golding and then became Stoke Goldington, there's a Goddenton closer to Weden, but it's in the next county. But even so, the distance between the two isn't much, something like 30 miles if my calculations are correct.
I would think writing for parish records would be the only way to solve this question (if they even exist).Someday I hope to do so, only problem is there's so much to research in America before trying in England, which takes forever by mail.It would be easier to hire someone, but it costs a fortune from what I understand.
I love your family tradition about the "Bonney Castle" name, very clever, not to mention the royal connection. My maiden name was Cassel (amazing how Barneycastle became Cassel a century later), and my uncle used to say we came from the German city of Kassel and were connected with the Rothschilds from there.I've learned long ago to take those stories with a grain of salt, if you know what I mean.
Good luck with your research, and I'm keeping the Bonneycastle name in mind when looking up records, hopefully someday one of us will be able to solve this.Let me know if you find anything interesting, I'll do the same.
Maureen
