"Who was the father of Sam W. & Lucinda BARNHILL?"
My great grandpa Samuel Wesley Barnhill was born July 12, 1868, in Benton County, Arkansas. He died Apr 30, 1955, at Elk City, Oklahoma. According to family legend, his father was Abel Barnhill, who died in Benton County, Arkansas, about 1870.
The family story goes that Samuel W. and his sister Lucinda ran away from the home of their stepmother after their father's death, and came down to live with their uncle Alexander Barnhill, whose farm is located just west of Driggs, Arkansas.
Lucinda somehow ended up owning a tract of land located west of driggs, on 6 Mile Road at the intersection with Barnhil Road, on the southeast corner of that intersection. Grandpa Samuel Wesley Barhill farmed the Alexander Barnhill place for a number of years, then moved his family to near Elk City, Oklahoma about 1913. The Alexander Barnhill farm is located on the southwest corner of this same intersection. The Barnhill Cemetery and Barnhill Church were on the southeast corner of Alexander's farm. The Barnhill Church is no longer standing, but the Barnhill Cemetery is still being maintained. Unfortunately, all my Barnhill people buried there have only a piece of field stone for a marker, and no engravings were found on any of them.
Are we talking about the same Samuel Wesley Barnhill? I have some pictures of that old Church and Cemetery and of Samuel Wesley's early family there (my grandmother and her siblings). If you would like a .jpg image file of these, let me know where to e-mail them.
