Given name is Elizabeth Hungerford Smith Calhoun. (Implies previous marriage to a Calhoun, - nee Smith) Additional information on Elizabeth Barnhill may be found in Bennie Lou Hook Altom's essay, "Elizabeth Barnhill and the Texian Wolf Hunters," based on Pierce and Latham's books, and winner of the 1997 Daughters of the Republic of Texas Mamie Wynne Cox Historical Essay Award. The essay is available at the DRT Library in Austin, Texas; Maury County, Tennessee Library, Dallas Public Library, and the Library of Congress. Another source of information is "The History of DeWitt County, Texas," by Cynthia Salm, DeWitt County Historical Commission, Curtis Media, Dallas, TX, 1991. The daughter, Martha Barnhill married William Lafayette Carter. William was born in Tennessee and died in Waco. Texas. -Stan-
