Fellow Researchers,

In my earlier posting did name William Barnhill, Jr. and Cynthia Hodge's seven children who settled in Texas in the early to mid 1800s and would like to add more regarding this second generation of Barnhills. For purposes of separating other Barnhills who settled in Texas will only name the sons of William Barnhill, Jr, found there.

Daniel Barnhill b. 1797 in South Carolina and d. 1846 in Wharton, Texas was married at least two time and possibly three? Wives names were Catherine Wheeler, Tempest Busby and perhaps an O'Daniel in between? Right now there seems to be some confusion regarding who the mother of all of his children were and all I can add here is that there are records of Daniel marrying Catherine Wheeler in 1817 and Tempest Busbee in 1834? Three of his sons were Freeman W., Andrew J., and William F. Barnhill and just looking at their dates of birth lean towards Wheeler or O'Daniel being their mother?

Pleasant Alexander Barnhill b. 1819 Alabama and d. in Texas. Married Eliza Jane Foster and appears to have never had any children?

Thomas W. Barnhill b. 1816 Alabama and d. in Texas has a number of children living with him on the 1850 Census for Washington Co., TX but no apparent wife?

Most of the early records in Texas, early to mid 1800s, will either be for these three named Barnhills or the sons of Daniel Barnhill. There are land records for Freeman W., William F. and Andrew J. Barnhill at the Land Office of Texas so my guess would be that the William Barnhill who is found with a land patent in Comanche Co., Texas, along with Daniel Barnhill, is Daniel's son William F. Barnhill?

Sorry if some of my information may prove to be incorrect and just hoping that some day more records for Texas will be available. In the meantime if anyone has any information about this second or even third generation of the William Barnhill, Jr. family please let me hear from you.

Thanks,
Cathy Barnhill Osborn
