Re: Barrentine, Chersaw District SC 1790
Carolyn:
I pretty much agree that most of us are probably descended from the Barrentine's of South Carolina. In the 1790 Cheraw District (which included part of Marlboro County)
census I found the following folks:
Barrentene, Jacob 1 / 2 / 4 /
Barrentene, Wm.1 // 1 /
Barrentene, Jacob 1 / 3 / 2 /
Barrentene, Charles1 / 2 / 1 /
There were 3 catagories on this census #1 was males 16 years & upwards
including heads of families. #2 was free white males under 16. #3 was free
white females including heads of families. So the first Jacob Barrentene
listed above had 2 white males under 16 (presumably sons) and 4 females
living in his household. This area in South Carolina was in the Northeast
part of that state.
Now over on the western side of South Carolina in Edgefield County (old 96th
District)the following are listed in the 1790 Census.
Barringtine, Elisha2 // 1 /
Barrentine, James2 / 3 / 4 /
The catagories are the same as above.
My grandfather was William Jefferson Barentine his father was listed as
Sidney Barrentine on William's Social Security card application of 1936. The
1880 Holmes County, Florida census shows Wilson McDaniel "Dock" Barrentine with wife Emily and the following children; Sidney age 15; Susan age 13; James age 9; Joseph
age 7; & Christian age 3. In the very next Household is a William Barrentine
age 72 listed by himself with no one else in his household. I am assuming that this is Wilson McDaniel Barrentine's father. He would have been born in 1808 could he have been a son to old Silas Barrentine born 1789 in South Carolina? Well that is pretty much everything that I have. Any help would be really appreciated.
