All the same bunch, came out of Marlboro Co. SC.I descend from Jesse and Elizabeth (maiden name? possibly Simpson) through their youngest child Frances b. ca. 1836 in Fayette Co. married Peter Turner.
As for the variant spellings, remember that the literacy rate in the rural south in the mid-1800's was not real high.Many people could not read or write.Census takers, tax collectors, et. al. often made their best guess and wrote it down the way it sounded.Errors in transcribing old-timey handwriting also contribute to the confusion sometimes.
