Hi Brad,
great to hear from you! And perfect timing as I just got back from a family reunion and my Barrett genealogy ambitions have been rekindled. As you can see I have lots of work to do!
Can you tell me where your Sarah Barrett Settle is buried? I would like to hear more about your family line.
When I get above Alexander Barrett (Sarah's brother) to George (her father) I think the info came from the book "Our Kin" (printed 1915) by Hoffman, Jenkins, and Daniel Rhyne.Reprinted in 1989 by Gateway Press, Baltimore, MD. Gaston County North Carolina Historical Society may have a copy. I do not have a copy but my family has used it as reference in the past.
I have conflicting info on Alexander Barrett and will have to dig into more of the research myself.
I will get better at this as time goes on.
George's grandson Jacob Grant Barrett (Alexander Barrett and Barbara Ann Hoffman's son) is buried in Cleveland Cemetary in Klickitat County, near Dot, 3 miles west of Bickelton, Washington (no gravemarker)along with a few of his children who have markers. This I am sure of. Jacob Barrett died of the flu in 1911 along with two of his children and then his wife died one year later. I am told that she is buried at Green Lawn Cemetery, LA County, California but have not found this yet. She must have moved towards friends or family in California after her husband and two children died but as of yet I just don't know who lived ther. After Jacob and Cassie died, my grandfather Lloyd and the remaining children were raised by an Uncle I am told.
This transcription below (thanks to Mrs. Ada Whitmore) of the Barrett burials in the Cleveland Cemetery and is also posted on the county genealogy site elsewhere on the internet. I posted it here in hopes other cousins can find us to swap info. I plan to visit the cemetery and photograph these headstones, but is a 5-6 hour drive away.
BARRETT, Jacob Grant, d. ca April, 1911, no marker on grave.
Lucy Matildy Ann, 10-28-1899 - 11-23-1901, dau. of Jacob G.
Bessie Mae, 1-12-1895 - 4-13-1911, dau. of Jacob G.
Lillie D., 8-3-1893 - 4~5-l91l, dau. of Jacob G.
Here are some more Barretts from the area of where my family settled but I do not know who they are can you recognize them???
