I've just started researching my family's history. Naturally, I'm running across a lot of information and I'm not able to put all of the pieces together yet.
My name is Robert Barrett Best. My father was born Edward Barrett Smith Jr. (6/21/1926). His father was Edward Barrett Best Sr. and his mother was Ethyland Byrd. They got a divorce about 1933. My father changed his name in high school to Edward Byrd Best. For whatever reason, my father never talked about Edward Barrett Best Sr. much. Because of this it's hard to accurately track the family after this. According to my research, Edward Barrett Smith's (Sr.) parents were Harry Smith and Sabina Barrett.
I do know that Edward Barrett Smith Sr. remarried to Estelle McPherson. I was speaking to
Mary Katherine Harrington last week. Mary Katherine is related to Estelle McPherson. Anyway she informed me she had an uncle whom she called Thomas Barrett. She also said she remembers another Uncle named Edward J. Barrett and she said she remembered he was from County Cork, Ireland.
This is not much but it's all I have right now.
