Cindy,
My husband's family also appears to have come to Illinois with father Chinique, although I have no definite proof of this, there is some indirect evidence. They came at approximately the same time and to the same place and a Chinique married into the family. Also my husband's family switched from Catholic to Protestant at about the same time father Chinique and a group of his parishoners left the Catholic Church.
I don't know of a definite connection to your family, but at least two Barsalou cousins in our line came to Illinois.
Honore Barsalou (b.1833) who is my husbands ancestor and Honore's cousin Leger Barsalou (b.1824).
As you probably know from reading the other posts only one Barsalou came to North America.Gerard Barsalou came to Montreal in 1699, married Catharine Lagras in 1700 and from them all the rest of the Barsalou/Barslou/Barcelou/Barsaloux etc. descend.I have the big Barsalou Genealogy compiled by Bob Barsaloux of Oklahoma. It is compiled from data from many Barsalou genealogists and I don't find Exilda in it, but since as far as I know I am the only one researching the Barsalou's who came to Illinois and I haven't had a chance to do too much, it is not surprising.I would recommend that you look in the Loiselle Marriage Index if you haven't already (anindex of Catholic Marriage in Canada, available on microfilm from a Family History Center).Look for a marriage for Antoine St. John as well as for Exilda Barcelou.I have looked up all the Barsalou's in it, but at the time I did it I did not include all the various spellings that have since come to light so it is very possible that I missed Exilda.
If I can be of further help you can email me directly.
