Hi,
I would like to know more about the Barthel part of this family. My grand-father was born 24 April 1848 and in the 1870 census he stated he was from Hesse-Darmstadt. On his death certificate, his father's name is shown as Gottlieb Barthel and mother's name unknown. I was told that he was a twin and had siblings who stayed behind in Germany. Needless to say, the name Gottlieb Barthel is of interest to me.

Merritt Barthel
