I am also researching the Barthel family tree. Our forefather Cornelis Bartels/Barthel was born close to Maastricht (The Netherlands) and was a professional soldier in Capt Roper Regiment.
He either came from Germany or France.
In 1729 he married Helena Mulders in Bergen op Zoom (The Netherlands)They had 5 children Cornelia, Geertruyd,Johannes, Johanna and Geertruy.Cornelis died Aug. 24 1757. Does any body know where he came from ?
