Sebastine Barthell of Altenstatt, Alsace, France was the father of five children; They were Martin, Christina, Mary, Henry and Frank. Frank was born 4 Jan. 1823. 1 Jan. 1843 he was drafted as a soldier by the French government. He served under Louis Philippe, King of France and later under Louis Napoleon. 28 Jan. 1851 he married Elizabeth Baumann, from the same location, daughter of Michael Baumann. Frank sailed on 15 May 1853 leaving behind his wife and 2 children. He spent 2 years in New York. In June 1855 he went to Camden, Oneida Co., NY. In 1857 he removed to Sand Bank, Oswego Co., NY. In 1859 he began at Pinveville his own boot and shoe business. He was joined by his wife and 2 young children. By 1895 he had 9 children, but only three survived: Michael of Henderson, Jefferson Co., NY; Mrs. Mary E. Foreman of Ellisburg, Jefferson co., NY and Charles T.
