I know there's a problem with Familysearch and reliability but I found there a Robert Eugene McKENNEY married to a Mary BARTOW in 1846 in Guernsey OH.

I believe this to be the Robert E. MCKENNEY who is in the 1850 Monroe Co. OH census with a wife Mary, and three children. The eldest, 4, is given in that census as born in IA (is either Samuel, James or Simon, hard to read), then Rebecca 2 b. OH, and the youngest, William 1, was born in OH. Robert and Mary are in the household of a John RAY, 28, a carpenter born in VA.

So it would appear the MCKENNEYS (and Mary BARTOW MCKENNEY) went to IA and returned. In that same 1850 census there is a Margaret MCKENNEY living beside a 20 year old George Washington MCKINNEY (my ancestor). This Margaret McKENNEY I am fairly certain is the widow of Robert MCKENNEY, listed in the 1840 Monroe Co. census as Robert MCCLUNNY (many of the same surrounding families are in the 1840 as in the 1850, so I think MCCLUNNY is an error). Living next to Robert MCCLUNNY in the 1840 Monroe Co. OH census is an Eli BARTOW. Eli's household has 1 male 15 to 20, 1 male 10 to 30, 1 male 40 to 50, 1 female 10 to 15, 1 female 15 to 20, ad 2 females 20 to 30.

I have no proof but am right now going on the assumption that Robert Eugene MCKENNEY is at least a relation of Robert and Margaret, beside whom Eli BARTOW was living in 1840. I am assuming my George Washington MCKINNEY is also a relation (both perhaps being grandsons). By 1860 my George Washington McKINNEY (later MCKENNEY) is living in Van Buren Co. IA in Village Township. There is another MCKINNEY family, that of a William, who appears twice in the census, in Washington Township and also on a railroad workcrew in the Village Township census, not far from G. W. MCKINNEY. This William MCKINNEY is also from OH. He was already in Van Buren in 1850 with an Eli YOUNG from OH in his household (who may have been a father-in-law). As my G. W. MCKINNEY later had a son he named Eli, I am thinking these individuals may be related.

BARTOWs were out in Van Buren by 1850 (I think it was), and indeed I see some BARTOWS on the 1847 census, I am thinking there is a relationship between these families--the Van Buren IA BARTOWS, Eli BARTOW of Monroe Co. OH, and the Mary BARTOW who married Robert MCKENNEY. The McKENNEYS were in IA in 1846, returned to OH by 1848 (according to the census) and at least my George Washington MCKENNEY went back out...but I'm unable to find any further info on Robert MCKENNEY.

I'd appreciate any help with this puzzle.

Juli
