My first Bassel ancestor in America that I know about was Benjamin Bassel of Litchfield,Ct. His son was Daniel Bassel of Lost Creek West Va. His son was Guy Bassel of Maryville, Tn. His son was John Burr Bassel of Maryville,Tn.This was my father. My son is John Burr Bassel III of Knoxville,Tn.

I have been trying to find out the origin of the first Bassel in this line. Did he have a father in America? Did he immigrate from Germany or France? Was he Jewish? (I found the names of 6 Bassels in the Holocaust records.)

There are many people with the surname Bassel in the Hanover region of Germany.

If you have any information about the earlier origins of our family, please advise. Thank you very much.
