My name is Michael Clifton Bassell. Benjamin Bassel, Sr. is my great-great-great-grandfather. I researched my family tree in the 1970s and obtained the Bassel family information from a professional genealogist in Clarksburg, WV, in spring 1974.

I designed an 8.5" by 11" form for recording genealogies, made copies and transcribed my notes and copied material to these forms. I am happy to share them with you.

My ancestral line goes as follows:
Benj Bassel, Sr.
Benj Bassel, Jr. (attorney)
Joseph Howard Bassel (Civil War Vet)
Clifton Roswell Bassell (judge, added final "l")
Roswell Charles Bassell (my father)
Michael Clifton Bassell

All were born in VA/WV except my father (Castle Rock, Colorado) and myself (Glendale, Calif).

There were two Jackson families in the Jane Lew, VA area in pre-War years: the New Jersey Jacksons married into Bassel family and an unrelated family of Jacksons, from whence General Stonewall Jackson derived. There was confusion about this among their descendants. My research proved that though he thought otherwise, Joseph Howard Bassel was not related to Stonewall, whom he knew as a youth and later fought under in the Great Struggle.
