Portrait of Maria Bassett in 1801, daughter of Col. Burwell Bassett
The Spring 2009 issue of ANTIQUES AND FINE ART magazine on p. 155 pictures a fine miniature portrait painted in 1801 of Maria Bassett who appears to be about 12-14 years old. She is the daughter of Colonel Burwell Bassett, a close friend and relative of George Washington. In the portrait Maria proudly wears a miniature portrait of her late father.
No further information is given about Maria in the article.
I am scanning this portrait in case any of the descendants might like a copy, either by email or by postal mail. Someone in the Bassett family ought to have it--it is too good to be missed by the family. It may not have a lot of genealogical value, but it certainly does have a great deal of family and artistic value.

If it were a portrait of a Pease family member of the time, I'd certainly want someone to do the same for me.
