BASTON - Georgia
Hi!
I'm researching the BASTON families in Georgia too.In Glascock County, GA, there is a small community named Bastonville. There was a school there in the early 1920's and it was closed in 1957 because of school consolidation.Remember the Brown v. Board of Education case?Okay.
I am told that there was a Nathan Thomas Baston who received a child's share of land when his father died between 1840 and 1850 apparently intestate, but his Trustees sold it while he was still a minor to his older brother, John Baston, so Nathan ended up owning no land as a young man.He was a school teacher and on a list of schools in McDuffie County in 1871 it shows a N.T. Baston School with 26 students.
Perhaps this is the family that located in the then WARREN COUNTY and later part of Warren was made into Glascock County. And maybe this is the Baston that caused the little town of BASTONVILLE to be created.
If anyone has anything on this line of Baston folks, I would welcome hearing from you.
