George was in the Civil War and that when his company surrendered, he hiked his gun and left saying that he wasn't surrendering to any _____yankee.He came to Lincoln Co and married a widow woman with two children. When I looked for Conf pension files, I found that George did recieve a pension from the state of MO.But the file didn't give me any clues as to where he came from or when.I didn't find anything on the company that he fought with, although I still might.Grandpa thought the widow's name was Tidwell (married or maiden?).I haven't been able to find any marriage or death of a Tidwell that I could tie to George's wife Martha.John Bates and Jessie G. Bates married sisters, Mittie and Fannie (Martha Francis) Mullikin.
