John A. Bates born in New York abt 1818 married Marion(mary ) Jane Hanes 23 June 1840. She was a school teacher when they met, in Newville. Her parents were Moses Hanes, Haynes( several spellings ) Mom was Mary Battles.
There son Oscar C. Bates is my line and at this point I have no information other then on him and what I have put in here about his father. Oscar was a Civil war hero that later ment and married Sylvia Altenburg and moved to Michigan.
If you have any infor mation on either or both of his parents , I would be very greatful. I will help where I can if I have anything you need.
Did a search on find a grave and found several John Bates and no Marion J. Bates.
