James Madison Bates

I foumd an interview of James Madison Bates in 1911 in Arkansas. He was a Confederate veteran who served with the 36th Mississippi infantry Company I. He states that his father was also James Madison Bates and his grandfather was David Bates. He also states that his father was a sheriff, a justice of the peace and "speculated in negroes". The above mentioned David was my gggg-grandfather who lived in Autauga County. James Madison states in this document that his grandfather David, served in the Georgia militia during the War of 1812. He was best friends with Anthony Adams during the war and they moved to and bought land together in Autauga County Alabama. He states that David was from SC and "was a true Englishman" and his mother was German. Anybody have any additional information on this line?
