We are trying to find out more about Willis T. Bates who resided in Meade County, KY by the 1880 census. Believe him to be the Willis Bates who was in his brother's household in Grayson County in 1870 census, this was A. J. Bates.

Believe the boys were sons of an older Willis Bates who was in 1850 and 1860 Owen County census. This older Willis Bates was b. in 1795 in Virginia. In 1850 census his supposed wife was named Rowena and was only 30. in the 1860 census two doors away from the older Willis Bates, aged 65 is a James Bates, aged 73, who could have been an older brother.

Would very much like to correspond with anyone who might have further information about this family. Anyone who might have gotten into Owen County records searching for this family?

thanks to you.

Ann Sipes,

Our Willis T. Bates married Eliza Rhodes in Meade County and had an Eliza Ann who married Will Ray.
