Hi Janice. My name is Tom McLane. My great great grandfather, William McLane, married Elizabeth Jane Bates, who might just be the sister to your Lucinda. As I understand it, this Bates family came from Tennessee to Athens, Alabama. Elizabeth Jane's parents were Fleming Bates and Mary (Polly) Bates. I have her siblings listed as Nancy Bates (married George Petty), Matilda Bates (married Bill Paulding), Catherine Bates (married Washington Crawford), Lucinda Bates, James K. Bates, Martin Bates, and 2 un-named sisters. To the best of my knowledge, the information which I have (and cannot find right now--of course) mentions Lucinda as being "a cripple". However, that is the extent of what I have. It isn't much, but it does seem to match to some extent. And I don't know if she ever married. I have no birth or death dates for my Lucinda, but maybe this information will either give you what you need, or at the worst, eliminate one incorrect choice. Personally, I hope this opens doors for both of us, because, to tell you the truth, I haven't been able to find any conclusive facts about Lucinda's grandparents. Again, I really hope this opens doors for both of us. Hope to hear from you soon. Tom Notify Administrator about this message?
