Hello, Rev. Smith! We also have a William Homer Battise (he later spelled it the original French way:Batiste). This could be a match to your branch.
Wm. Homer Battiste was born Sept. 15, 1862 and died July 28, 1950.We do not know much about him except he did marry Eva Bailey, who died Aug. 9, 1901.Wm. was the oldest in my great-grandfather's family. They were brothers, and had 11 other siblings.
Their parents were James William Battise,
(11-17-1836 to 8-31-1920) and Elizabeth Helen Bigwood (9-6-1842 to 2-20-1925).
I do not have any information on African roots, only know that our Battise/Battiste side is from France.I wish I knew.I do believe we are most likely related. What history do you have so far on the link between the African and French heritage?I know that many French people settled in New Orleans, LA, and Florida. We are not sure where ours entered the U.S. Blessings to you!
