I to am searching yorkshire Batty's. Especally Leeds. Your John Thomas may have a connection to our Batty's later on in time. People moved about in those days for short periods of time looking for work. I know the popular thought is that Batty is drived from Bartholemew, but you may find that they were Scots pushed out of Scotland in the Riviet area. The origins were Beattie changed to Battye, Batty, Battie. In fact there are records in the late 1700s and early 1800s when most common folk were still depending on the clergy to spell for them, of a Miles Batty and then his son who would go from place to place correcting clergy spellings of the name back to Batty.
Anyway. Batty is a North west name very common in West Riding and some what in East Riding.
I would love to follow up on your family tree and share what little information I have
