I wonder if this is a tie-in to my mystery great-grandfather Samuel Batty. I can locate no birth or death details for him, but "family lore" has it that he originated in Yorkshire, probably Leeds. In 1906 he and his wife Martha Batty nee Allcock (marriage details missing too), then living at 33 Back Portland Street, Ashton under Lyne, Manchester, had a son John Batty, my grandfather. I can locate no further details on Samuel, who was a coal miner (not listed on deaths of miners), and family oral history is silent on him except that he, too, may have been a "black sheep". I have a photo of this Samuel and another of a female of the same period who bears a striking resemblance to current female Batty's of my line, whose name is Selena but surname unknown, perhaps she was a sister of Samuels? Any information very welcome.
