Hello Brian,
I came across your posting regarding George Batty and his two marriages. One of his marriages may well help solve a family mystery. My mother was a Deeney from New Jersey who had a brother who lived in Belleville named Jack Deeney in the 1950s. The thing that has been puzzling to us Deeneys is that it appears that the Deeney family had members going back to Ireland after the original migration to New jersey in the 1840 era. They returned to ireland after the Civil War. It may well be that George Batty married one of my Deeney line that returned to Ireland and then eventually made it's way back to Belleville in the 20th century. This may account for some gaps in your lines as well. Any information would be helpful.
Sincerely,
Thomas Pinson (Deeney) of the New Jersey Deeneys
