In Reply to: "TEN BATTY BOY'S" B-17- WHAT'S THE STORY? by Ivan Gignac of 479

The Ten Batty Boys refers to The Fighting Ten.These were ten brothers, all of whom were officers in the Indian Army. This was the subject of the book,The Fighting Ten by Evelyn Desiree Battye published by BACSA.Four were killed in action, read The Far Pavilions by M.M.Kaye for the account of the death of Wigram Battye.John Masters mentions them in his book To A Coral Strand.Six survived achieving high military rank. This was I believe the only occasion when so many members of the same family served together in the armed forces. The use of Batty instead of Battye a common mistake, may have caused some confusion.I hope that this answers your query Ivan.
