Would anyone have any further information on this Thomas Batty or his family? I would love to learn the name of his wife and parents and to make contact with other descendants of this Batty Family. Thomas Batty's daughter Anne, who died at Knocklofty, Clonmel, Tipperary, Nov 30, 1682, married Edward Hutchinson (1632-1699), Esq., of Knockofty, Clonmel, Tipperary, and they are my 7th Great-grandparents. Here is some information on Thomas Batty & his family: From the HISTORY OF CLONMEL, by The Very Rev William P. Canon Burke (1864-1941), originally published in 1907 by N. Harvey & Co., Waterford, Ireland; Reprinted 1983, by Roberts’ Books Ltd., Kilkenny, Ireland; pages 326-27: “1670 [Year Will Proved], Batty, Edward Will dated 1 November, 1699. Batty names Ellin his wife, executrix; bequeaths to Stephen, Thomas, Ann, Jeremy and John, the children of his brother Thomas Batty, £100, £100, £50 and £50 respectively, 30s to his “sheapherd Henry White,” and 50s each to Stephen and Thomas, the sons of Richard Moore. The Battys appear to have been soldiers in the army of Cromwell. Thomas was appointed Treasurer of Revenue for Clonmel Precinct 14th May, 1652, Edward farmed the lands of Darlinghill. At the Restoration the former settled in Innislounaght. A tomb in St. Mary’s [Church of Ireland, Clonmel] is the only record of them existing in the district: The inscription runs: - “Here lieth the Body of John Slaughter Born in Gloucester Shere who died the First of August 1687. Here also lies the Body of Cornet John Batty Grandson to the above named Sloughter who Dyed the 17th of January 1711 son to Thomas and Elizabeth Batty of Clonmel. Also the Body of Elizabeth the wife of Thomas Batty who Dyed on the 20th of May 1714. Also the Body of Cornet Thomas Batty of Clonmel who Departed this life at Killoughter the 7th February 1722 and in the 62nd year of His age. Here lies the Body of Lieut. William Kennet as also The Body of Elizabeth Kennet who died September 7th 1736.” Note: Thomas Batty was Mayor of Clonmel in 1659, and again in 1697. (History of Clonmel, pg. 230) The 1697 Thomas Batty was probably the son of the 1659 Thomas Batty. Notify Administrator about this message?
