Hello DeeAnn:

My father, Jack Batty, was the original poster on this thread. I wanted answer and enhance some of the info for our Batty line.

Our Line came to the States prior to the Civil War and settled in New Jersey. A traditional family story that has been passed orally claims they arrived in New York the day Jenny Lind, the famous 19th century singer, was performing (Jenny Lind toured the US 1850-52). I don't know how valid the story is.

The earliest Battys we've been able to trace are JOHN THOMAS BATTY and his wife MARY ANN WILSON. The only English record I've been able to locate for any John Thomas Batty and Mary Ann Wilson is a London marriage record on December 25, 1826. However, I doubt they may be the same John and Mary - their marriage date is about 20 years before they had children.

Their children that we know of were:
George (see below)
James Wilson

GEORGE BATTY, son of John Thomas Batty and Mary Ann Wilson, was born May 11, 1845 in Leeds. He died march 16, 1925 in Belleville, New Jersey. George married twice.

George married MARY MAXWELL and had:
Alfred Webberly (my great-grandfather)
James Wilson

George married EUNICE DEENEY and had:
Mary Ann
John Thomas
Walter Wilson

Any leads or connections to either the direct or collateral lines would be great!

Brian Batty
