I am very interested in the specific Bauder/Bader/Potter family you have mentioned. For some time I have been seeking a John Bauder/Bader/Potter who may be my great grandfather. Charles William Bauder was born in Centre Hall as the illegitimate son of John Bauder and Ellen Jane Nearhood on April 22,1868. Ellen Jane was 21 years 4 months old when C. W. was born. The name John Bauder was passed on to us by my grandfather, Charles William, as his father's name as told to him by his mother. However, I have wondered if the spelling of Bauder was correct since Ellen Jane was illiterate. I have speculated that Ellen Jane went from McKees Half Falls where she grew up to stay with her uncle in Centre Hall to avoid the embarrassment of having a child out of wedlock.

The interesting thing is that McKees Half Falls, in Snyder County, is not far from Perry County and on the same side of the Susquehanna. Was there a John in the family that you mention that would have been been a likely candidate to have had a liaison with Ellen Jane? Even if this is right family, it's going to be very difficult to prove paternity. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
