From pg 9 of the Thursday March 22, 1906 "Oakland (CA) Tribune":
300-Pound Man Dies on Anti-Fat Remedy
Reduces His Weight Rapidly in
Two Weeks and Brings on
New York, March 22. -- Anti-fat killed George C. Bauder, of East New York, according to the report of the coroner's physician.
Bauder weighed nearly 300 pounds about three months ago, and feared he would die of fatty degeneration of the heart. He began to diet himself and take exercise, but he simply piled on more weight.
He then tried an anti-fat remedy, and it worked as advertised. Bauder's weight decreased some fifty pounds in the last two weeks. He suddenly collapsed yesterday and died in a few hours.
The coroner's physician said that the rapid loss in weight had weakened the man's heart.
