Chico woman celebrates 100 years
Alfreda Rowena Bauder of Chico was honored for her 100th birthday by her family, staff, and the other residents at Twin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The oldest of eight children, she was born Aug. 25, 1900 to Herman and Lean Burrichter Jr. in Red Bluff.
She married Barney E. Bauder in 1918 in Red Bluff, and they moved to Vina in 1930. They owned and operated Vina Garage. She spent her free time sewing, crocheting, gardening and playing canasta. She was a member of the Vina Women's Club.
The Bauders had one daughter, Patricia Burns of Vina. She has three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Bauder became a resident of Twin Oaks in 1999. She takes pride in her family, and has her thick, snow-white hair styled every week. The Twin Oaks cat, 25-pound Tiger, sleeps on Bauder's bed regularly. There is plenty of room for the big cat since Bauder is under five feet tall and weighs just over 100 pounds.
Bauder says being 100 feels no different than any other age. Her brother, Herman Burrichter Jr. lives in Otis, Ore. and sister, Barbara Meyers, lives in Dunsmuir.
