James McFee Baughman Obituary
From Sedan, Kansas Times-Star
Thursday 19 Feb 1914
James M. Baughman was born in Ohio February 23, 1831. He enlisted in the Civil War in Ohio, served 3 yrs, 2 mos, and one-half. He was with Sherman “The March to the Sea” and “Raid Around Atlanta” and rode his horse 5 days and nights without food, sleep or dink of water, and at the close of the was he was honorably discharged.
It was then he came to Kansas where he operated a saw mill for several years, sawing the first timber that built the first railroad through the Neosho Valley. In 1878 he was married to Mrs. Teressa Bagwell at Neodesha. Until the past 10 yrs he was a successful farmer at that place having his family come to Wauneta. After the children left home, he thought he and Mrs. Baughman could live more comfortable in Sedan so came here to retire from the farm.
He leaves a wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. George Myers of Conway Springs and Mrs. A.B. Short of Arkansas City and a son of Dewey, Oklahoma, all were present at his death. Mr. Baughman was a prosperous and kind hearted man. He also was well liked by all. He was a good husband and father and leaves a sad home and many friends to mourn his loss.
Addendum: Mrs. A.B. Short listed in the obituary in Orlena May Bagwell and therefore, a step-daughter.
