Daer Barbara,Seek out record from Orland Twp, and Tinley Park, Cook Co., IL records.I remember my mother saying that there were many cases of serious eye problems in the Conrad Roemer Family,1831 and in his brother Christian Conrad's family, 1833 .Their father was from Germany born about 1803, wife unknown. One of Christian's daughters was blind for many years before she died at age 76 in 1942. The children were born in the 1850's and 1850's.About 1885, Conrad's son, Christian born 1862 in Orland, Il wed Jennie Baumgardner, they had 2 children Edward and Elsie.Ed wed his 1st cousin Lizzie Roemer, Then just about everyone had severe eye problems, Then the cancer cases started. I knowof 9 CA cases and 12 cases of blindness and legal blindness. The family is sure about the Roemer genetics, but Baumgardner's need more study.Jennie's father wed 3 times, the third time another Baumgardner about 1925. Only Jennie had 2 children. Elsie was my maternal grandmother.by mother died of CA and I have Ca. My mother was almost blind she died, bad eyesight her entire life.My daughter and Ihave bad eyes and I have macular degeneration and night blindness and tunnel visio and cataracts. My mother's sister is suffering from vision loss, i sonage 56, is almost legally blind with no hope for a cure. Her grandson also has a critical eye condition and everyone else wear eyeglasses.I only know stories about 25 Roemer's , but there are about 200 more that were born before 1900. I wish that I knewsome Baumgardners, but they were all dead before I was born.If someone in your family is a direct descendant, you should be able to get birth ,marriage and death records. In the old days we were married into the families in Peppertown, IN.E-mail me.So Long , Marilyn Elsie (Roemer) Lowey Nelson.
