Mayor-Elect Baumgartner - Undertaker, Dealer in All Kinds of Furniture and Household Goods.
The subject of this sketch, Mr. C. Baumgartner, was born in far-off Switzerland, April 19, 1856, and crossed the Great Divide with his parents in 1868.The family first settled in Allegheny, Pa., and Mr. Baumgartner worked in the glass factories of the Pittsburg district for about six years.In 1874 he came to Tennessee, first locating in Grundy county, where he remained for two years, when he came to South Pittsburg.Working at the carpenter's trade, contracting and building until 1892, he then laid the foundation for his present business, which has since prospered his efforts. His furniture and house furnishings establishment is quite prominently situated on Cedar Avenue, where he is also well equipped and conducts a first class undertaking and embalming department.
Having served for a number of years as alderman, Mr. Baumgartner was recently elected mayor of South Pittsburg without opposition, and will take his seat the first of June.
