Hi Joan,
I have had a ref. to Alice floating around for a while but wasn't able to place her definitely in this family, not having found a birth ref. The MI you found makes all clear.
It would seem that Joseph's family ran heavily into twins.Maybe from the SALISBURY side as there's no evidence of it in the BAXENDALE side.
These are the children (now including Alice) that I have on file:
Joseph Hornby BAXENDALE b. 1817
Alice BAXENDALE b. 1817
Mabella BAXENDALE b. 1820
Lloyd BAXENDALE b.1820
Richard Birley BAXENDALE b.1827
Salisbury BAXENDALE b. 1827
Some of these dates were extrapolated from the 1881 Census, so may be a year out, depending on whether birthdays fell before or after the Census date- so maybe not twins after all.
Alice's Marriage to Charles Holland was registered in the registration district of Barnet in the 2nd quarter of 1849.
(GRO ref. 1849(2) Barnet VI 681)
It was written up in the Illustrated London News (ref: 1849 II 312)
These families certainly intermarried a great deal and I haven't spent a lot of time delving into their convoluted relationships.
Josephs brother Lloyd Salisbury BAXENDALE(1788-1853) also seems to have married a cousin (Ellen SALISBURY)
more info to come!!
David
