Gaston, I am looking for the parents of Peter Bayard (possibly Peter T. Bayard, or Peter Thomas Bayard), said to have been born in Les Trois Rivieres (Trois Rivieres; Three Rivers)Quebec or Toronto, Ontario. The year of his birth is in conflict. His last name is also spelled Bayrd, Beyard, and Byard. An American Civil War Roster places his year of birth as 1840. The United States Census records for 1870, also place his birth at about 1840. However, the United States Census records for 1880, say he was born about 1830, and the 1900 U.S Census specifically says he was born in February 1816. A website on the internet says that he was Peter T. Bayard, born on 29 February 1816 in Toronto, Canada. This same website says that he married Adaliene Tamisiea on 4 October 1857, near Honey Creek, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Another tradition says they were married at Council Bluffs, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Peter and Adaliene (Adaline; Adelina) had children including Selena Bayard, Victor Z. Bayard, Octave Bayard, Joseph O. Bayard, Franklin Bayard, Peter T. (Peter Joseph Bayard; Peter Thomas Bayard) Bayard, Flora Bayard, Josephine Bayard, Adella Frances Bayard, and Edward Bayard. In the United States Civil War Pension Index, it says that Peter Bayard was a Private in the 5th Iowa Cavalry, Company C. He was mustered in 18 May 1864, and mustered out 2 June 1865. He was stationed at Sully Post No. 13 in Pierre, Hughes County, South Dakota. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic in South Dakota. Peter and Adelina were living 1870 in Rulo, Richardson County, Nebraska, and in 1880 at Missouri Valley, Harrison County, Iowa. On 19 September 1888, Peter purchased three parcels of land in Hughes County, South Dakota. By 1900, they were living in San Jose, California. Peter Bayard was said to have died 19 October 1909 in San Jose, California. That is all I have. If you find anything close to matching in your book or records, please post me a message. Sincerely, Charles Kemp Portland, Oregon Notify Administrator about this message?
