I am trying to trace my family tree and know my maternal grandmother was adopted, almost in similar circumstances to your enquiry.
My Grandmother was born in 1901 and her father died the same year she was born and her mother the following year,I think an advert was placed in a newspaper for her to be adopted. The interesting part though is that the people who had contact with her after the adoption were two "GODMOTHERS" by the name of Bayly. I have some photocopied letters with names on them and Georgina is one the names, but I think its not her first christian name.If you would like further information, would you email me please. Thanks
